"Fay" is a short-name derived from "Lafayette". It was once not an unusual male name. Of course, "Jan" is short for Janice. We were both born in Iowa and in our careers lived in Texas, and Illinois (Fay in Michigan) as well as in Omaha, Nebraska when we retired to the Phoenix/Scottsdale area.
